Building Foundations for Quality Education in Uganda
Access to quality education is a fundamental human right. However, many communities in the global south are facing severe learning poverty, which has been exacerbated by the prolonged school closures due to COVID-19.
Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rate of uneducated youth in the world, with 90% of children in school not receiving adequate education and resources, including teachers. This is a dire situation, as there are 133 million children in Africa who are not learning in their schools.
Schools in Uganda were closed for 20 months, the longest closure in the world. As a result of the long school closures in Uganda, it is estimated that 1/3 of students will never return to school, and thousands of schools will not re-open. This is a tragic loss for the future of these communities and the individuals who will never have the opportunity to receive an education.
We believe that with your support and partnerships with other nonprofits and NGOs, we can make a meaningful impact in the communities where we work. Together, we can ensure that every child has access to quality education, and break the cycle of learning poverty.
Teacher Empowerment
We will work with teachers to give them professional development to incorporate inquiry-based teaching methods, which will help students develop 21st century and literacy skills.
Empower Inclusive Learning Environments
We will support the school leadership and community to address educational facility issues that detract from their learning experience by investing in better facilities, and supplies.
Empower Her!
We will create and improve opportunities for girls to access education by overcoming the barriers that prevent them from attending school.
